The Influence of Temperature on the Uniaxial Compressive Strength of Rocks
Brabec, Marek ; Šimáček, Roman
This study focuses on determination of the temperature effect on uniaxial compressive strength of different rock types. For our laboratory tests, we chose local greywacke from the Kobeřice quarry which is situated 10 km south of Prostějov. For comparison, datasets representing other rock types have been gathered from the literature cited. As shown in this study, the rock type structure, composition or the processes that formed the rock can influence how the compressive strength changes across the temperature range. Results of similar analyses can be utilized during the design of underground constructions or for assessment of the fire damage on a rock-based constructions.

Physico-mechanical properties of the system syenite-enclave in the Královec quarry
Umlauf, Jiří ; Sluková, Michaela (referee) ; Krmíček, Lukáš (advisor)
The bachelor thesis focuses on mechanical properties of syenitoids and their mafic microgranular enclaves collected in actively mined quarry Královec near Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou. In overview part of the thesis are described selected methods for determining the physical-mechanical properties of the rocks as well as geology of the studied site. The practical part brings the results and principal conclusions from the measurements of the mechanical properties of these rocks.

Correlations of parameters of selected rock types based on laboratory tests
Závacký, Martin ; Lahuta, Hynek (referee) ; Durmeková,, Tatiana (referee) ; Horák, Vladislav (advisor)
The dissertation thesis deals with the properties of hard rocks important for designing geotechnical structures, such as strength and deformation characteristics, as well as rock failure criteria. This work examines the possibility of using correlation relations to estimate the strength characteristics of rocks from index tests, which can make the rock testing process more efficient. The author described selected laboratory tests of rocks and identified several limitations of the tests procedures based on his own practical experience. The correlation analysis of an extensive data set and the derivation of regression relations for selected dependencies were performed. Furthermore, the rock strength estimation quality of the newly derived regressions was compared with the already published regressions. The analysis shows that the achieved degree of correlation is not sufficient to generalize the examined regressions. A significant reason of the low degree of correlation is the combination of the variability of rock properties and limitations of practical testing procedures. Thus, focus should be paid on calibration of the regression relationships within smaller areas in order to precisely estimate the rock properties as reliable input to the geotechnical design.

The effect of temperature on the mechanical properties of greywacke
Brabec, Marek ; Horák, Vladislav (referee) ; Krmíček, Lukáš (advisor)
The author of this master's thesis studied the influence of high temperatures on Lower Carboniferous greywacke sampled in the Kobeřice quarry near Prostějov. Two sets of cylindrical bodies were produced, made of fine and relatively coarse-grained greywacke. The samples were then fired at temperatures up to 1200 °C. Thermally altered samples were then studied in laboratory using rock mechanics and petrography methods. Results of the study were then carefully interpreted to determine relations between the rock parameters, structural changes and the firing temperature. The master's thesis also contains a brief insight into rock thermomechanics, necessary theoretical background to the used methods and geological context of the Drahany Upland, where the samples of the tested greywacke were taken.
